Transit (Gochar) API for charts and the sky

Our transit API follows the planets through the signs and reads each position for one birth chart. It counts each transit from the birth Moon, the traditional way (gochar), and dates every sign change and retrograde. Two endpoints need no chart at all, for sky calendars on any site.

Where the Sun and Moon are on Oct 1, 2026, counted in houses from John Doe's birth Moon: the traditional result, the planet that blocks it (vedha), and what is left after the block. Real output for John Doe, born Aug 15, 1990, 10:30 AM, New York.

What the transit API returns

  • Where each planet is on any date, the house it falls in counted from the birth Moon, and whether that is favorable by the traditional tables.
  • Vedha, the traditional block: when another planet cancels a transit, the response shows the result before and after it.
  • What comes next: each planet's stay in each house, with dates, for any range you ask for.
  • Sign changes (ingresses) for one planet, with a separate row when retrograde motion takes it back into a sign.
  • When a planet passes over a point in the birth chart, such as Saturn over the Moon.
  • A yearly forecast: every sign change, retrograde, combustion and tracked conjunction in a year, read against the chart.
  • The sky with no chart: where every planet is at a moment (GET /v1/sky), and a calendar of sign changes, retrogrades and conjunctions (GET /v1/sky/events).

Transits are counted from the birth Moon, as the traditional tables are. The house from the rising sign is given too, but no result rests on it. Dates allow for retrograde motion, so a planet that crosses a sign boundary three times shows up three times.

The rules behind it

Gochar is counted from the birth Moon (TR-01), and each planet is favorable only in certain houses from it (TR-02). Vedha, a planet in a paired house, can block a transit (TR-03). It is not applied to future periods, because the other planets keep moving (TR-07). Transit dates come from the ephemeris, not a printed table (TR-06). A year is dated from what moves in the sky, not from the rising sign (AN-01), and combustion states the orb it used (AN-04).
