Quickstart

Call it from your code

Send your API key in the Authorization header and the birth details as JSON. The answer comes back as JSON. This example asks for planet positions, with the same birth details as the demo.

# John Doe, born Aug 15, 1990, 10:30 AM, New York
curl -X POST "$ASTROLOGY_API_BASE/v1/planets" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $ASTROLOGY_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"year":1990,"month":8,"day":15,"hour":10,"minute":30,"second":0,"latitude":40.7128,"longitude":-74.006,"timezone":"America/New_York"}'

Plain-English answers

Answers that name their rule

Checks such as doshas and yogas return a plain-English answer next to the exact rule they tested. The text comes from fixed rules, not an AI model.

  • The same birth details always get the same answer.
  • Exceptions are listed, not applied, so an astrologer can weigh them.
  • Every rule is written out in the public rulebook.
POST /v1/dosha/manglik200 OK
{
  "dosha": "manglik",
  "rule": "Mars occupying house 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 or 12, counted separately from the ascendant, from the Moon and from Venus",
  "present": true,
  "cancellations": [
    "Mars is in its own sign"
  ],
  "answer": {
    "status": "present",
    "headline": "Manglik dosha is present, counted from your ascendant and your Moon. On its own this is very common: by this three-way check most charts show it from at least one place."
  }
}
John Doe's manglik dosha check: the rule it tested, an exception it found but did not apply, and the answer in plain English. Real output for John Doe, born Aug 15, 1990, 10:30 AM, New York.

Accuracy

Checked against Swiss Ephemeris

Planet positions come from JPL DE440s, NASA's planet data, read with Skyfield. To check them, we run the same moments through Swiss Ephemeris, a widely used reference, and compare. The numbers are the largest gaps our tests allow. An arc second (″) is 1/3,600 of a degree.

Common questions

All questions
How are time zones and daylight saving time handled?

Send a time zone name such as America/New_York. The API applies the rules that were in force at the birth moment. It refuses a local time that happens twice when the clocks go back, instead of guessing.

Read the conventions
Can I get a PDF report?

The API returns a self-contained printable HTML page from /v1/report. Print it to PDF in any browser, or convert it on your side.

About the report
What is the rate limit, and what happens at 429?

Each live key has its own per-minute limit, so one busy key does not slow the others. Free keys get 60 calls a minute, Starter 120, Growth 300 and Scale 1,000. A full report or an annual forecast counts as 50 calls. Test keys get 10 a minute each. Over a limit, the API answers 429. The Retry-After header says how many seconds to wait, and the error code says which limit you hit. If you often get 429s, move to a larger plan.
