Panchang API for any date and place

Our panchang API gives the Hindu calendar for any date and any place. Send a date and a place; no birth details are needed. You get the five parts of the panchang, sunrise and sunset, rahu kaal, and the good and bad times of the day. Times are worked out for that place, so a temple in New York gets New York times.

The Hindu calendar for one day at one place: sunrise, the lunar day (tithi), the Moon's star group (nakshatra), the weekday, and rahu kaal, a daily window traditionally avoided for new starts. Real output for New York, Oct 1, 2026.

What the panchang API returns

  • The five parts of the panchang: tithi (the lunar day), nakshatra, yoga, karana and vara (the weekday). Each has its start and end time, since most change during the day.
  • Sunrise, sunset, moonrise and moonset, plus the lunar month, the season and the era years (Shaka and Vikram).
  • The times to avoid: rahu kaal, yamaganda and gulika kaal, plus dur muhurta and bhadra.
  • The good times: abhijit muhurat, brahma muhurta, and the day's choghadiya and hora periods.
  • Tara bala: a daily rating from a person's birth nakshatra, for up to 31 days at once. No birth time is needed.
  • The panchang at a birth moment, with the sunrise-to-sunrise weekday for births before dawn.
  • Muhurat windows: good times to buy a vehicle or property, move into a new home or marry. Add a birth date to check each window for that person.

The day is read at sunrise, as the Hindu calendar reads it: the tithi of a date is the one running when the Sun rises. Always send latitude, longitude and timezone. Without them, the API uses Ujjain, India, the traditional reference place.

Endpoints

The rules behind it

The five parts are the classical ones: tithi, yoga, karana, vara, and nakshatra with its pada (PA-01 to PA-05). Rahu kaal, yamaganda and gulika each take one eighth of the real daylight at the place, so they are never copied from another city's table (PA-09). Abhijit muhurat is the part of the day around local noon (PA-10). Choghadiya and hora follow one fixed order of the planets (MU-01, MU-03). A hora is a 24th of the day from sunrise to sunrise, not a clock hour (MU-05). When a choghadiya and a time to avoid overlap, the response says so (MU-04).
